Important Announcement from Generation X, RE: J'Ouvert
Generation X
Press Release
Friday 29th September, 2006 - Miami, Florida - To date Generation X has not responded to propaganda
being spread on the internet and radio stations by Rush Promotions, Hybrid Events and Island Elite. We
felt no need to act immaturely or irresponsibly, nor did we wish to divert our focus from Carnival activities. However, our loyal supporters have demanded that we respond in an informative and responsible manner to clear up any
misconceptions.
Generation X first did a J'ouvert at Bayside Hut on Carnival Friday in 1999 when we had "pan-round-de-neck"
on the road with paint. We followed up for two subsequent years at Club Seven (formally called Miami Scoreboard). Island Elite,
with whom we had a good personal and working relationship, are very aware of this as we personally showed them flyers
to prove it over two years ago.
Rush & Hybrid’s first Jouvert event was in 2002. Hence their claim to the original J'ouvert is false.
Generation X does not claim to have done the first J'ouvert in Miami as other promoters have had J'ouvert events
previously, the most namely by Hayden who started his " A Taste of J'Ouvert" in 1995 and continues to this day.
His event this year is also on Saturday September 30
th at the Palmetto Bay Village Center.
J'Ouvert is a general word used to convey a particular type of event at Carnival so any claim to owning the
name is presumptuous. Yes, Hybrid did rush two weeks ago to register a trademark with the name “Jouvert" but that does not
mean that they own the word, which they continuously misspell because they are not aware of the true history behind it.As a matter of fact, the word, which is French, means "the beginning" (of Carnival) which originated in Trinidad, and
is spelt “J’ouvert”.
If these three entities are professional promoters as they claim in their e-mails, why the need to resort to:
a.Assaulting two members of Generation X
b.Threatening others
c.Trying intimidating tactics
d.Paying
radio stations and Party Web Sites not to run our commercials and put up our flyers
e.Slander about piracy, etc.
f.Spreading rumors that the J'ouvert at
Bayside Hut has moved to Metropolis
g.Calling and requesting that Generation X join
to do their Jouvert event with us at Bayside Hut
h.Asking the owners of Bayside Hut to convince
Generation X to do so
i.Sending out text messages that they sold
1000 advance tickets before their tickets were even in the outlets (they may have had 1000 advance tickets distributed, just
as Generation X has 2200 advance tickets distributed)
As
a result of these manipulations, certain party web sites that agreed to accept our payment for advertising and were paid,
did not place our ads, which is not only unethical business practice, but also illegal.
The facts are:
ØGeneration X began producing a carnival band and promoting
parties in 1999.
ØGeneration X has been having parties/events and will
continue to do so on the last Saturday of every month.
ØGeneration X first did a “Wet Fete" in 2003 and each
year thereafter. Hybrid & Rush followed in 2006, and in an attempt to confuse the public (as they are now with J’ouvert), held
a Wet Fete at the same venue.
ØGeneration X held a J'ouvert long before Hybrid
and Rush and with paint.
(Attached is a flyer from one of our past J'ouverts in 2000 as proof.)
It’s up to the people to decide which event they wish to attend; both should be great events and there is a
large population of party goers in Miami, but let the facts be known.
Your friends deserve to know the true facts.Be sure to pass it on.
Sweet Trinidad and Tobago Hit by Earthquake (updated)
An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale shook
Trinidad Friday morning at around 9.08am and lasted about 15 seconds. An aftershock was felt around 2:25pm. Some
structural damage has been recorded to several buildings in the nations capital and some minor injuries, with 1 death due
to a fall.
The earthquake brought air traffic at Piarco National Airport
to a hault as travellers and airport staff were evacuated and flights canceled as officials checked for any structural damage
to the facilities. Workers of the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Company (T&TEC) were dispatched to repair damage
to lines in several areas of North Trinidad.
Although the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management did
not report any immediate loss of life, aerial reconnaissance of the north and eastern parts of Trinidad was still dispatched
by Trinidad's Special Anti-Crime Unit.
The tremors were also reportedly felt throughout most of eastern
Venezuela, but there were no immediate reports of any major damage there at this point.
Stay tuned IZATRINI.com will keep you informed of the latest
developments.
Anybody from the Caribbean will appreciate this but Trinis
will especially appreciate this. This is a common occurance in rural Trinidad and one that town people will find amusing.
No disrespect to country people in Trinidad but this is just an argument that would hardly come about in town.
