Rum Till I Die

Too much alcohol in Indian Music, so says Mungal Patasar local Sitarist and Musical Director. Patasar says that local music composers need to stay away from lyrics referring to drunken revelry. He says composers focus much too much on alcohol and alcohol-induced behavior.Adesh Samaroo

I am sorry Mungal but alcohol especially rum has become synonymous with West Indian culture and more so Indian Culture. Tell meh if I lie? These lyrics by local composers are more playful than they are serious and are not meant to encourage alcoholism by any stretch of the imagination.

Everyone will agree that there is a time and a place for these types of songs and they will, I am sure continue to be a part of our culture in Trinidad and Tobago.

Feature: Allyuh.com T&T's Social Media Website
IZATRINI.com had a chat with T&T's new Social Media website and we think you would be interested to learn more about Allyuh.com.

1. What made you decide to do Allyuh.com?

We look at Allyuh as a solution for aggregating what is taking place with regard to Trinidad and Tobago. Before Allyuh you would have to visit numerous sources from the local newspapers to those hard to find blogs in order to get a real-time pulse on the country. We aimed to solve that by giving the community the power to identify and decide what qualifies as worthy of being shared with each other. As it stands now we are "Trinidad and Tobago's user driven social content website".

2. If you had to describe your website in less than 30 words how would you?

Allyuh is a community powered site that allows you to submit an article that will be reviewed by all and promoted, based on popularity, to the main page.

3. How many stories are submitted each day?

The community is currently submitting 5-6 stories on average daily with about 50% of those getting the required popular votes.

4. How much time do you spend on average per day on Allyuh.com?

We average about 5 hours a day, mostly working on and continuing to improve the various functionalities for the community.

5. What blogs (other than IZATRINI.com Blog) do you regularly read?

I have an expansive list that feeds me daily, including the popular Trinidad related blogs, I'd say its close to 100 blogs in total.

6. Tell us something about yourself, something about the founders of Allyuh.com and anything else you would like?

Well as the founders we understand that based on the social aspect of the site that the community drives Allyuh. If you are currently a part of that community we THANK YOU!! and if you aren't feel free to drop by, try it out and share with us using the Contact page on the Blog any praise, grievance or ideas you have on improving Allyuh.

7. What do you see happening with Allyuh.com in the next few years?

We recognize that our direction is decided by the community, so we are ready for wherever that takes us. All we can hope for is continued growth toward a destination for those looking for a holistic view of the happenings as it relates to Trinidad and Tobago.

West Indies win and move on to Super 8
It was not a simple win, even though everyone watching thought that the WI would sail into a win after taking 3 early Zimbabwe wickets. The WI supporters in Sabina Park were overjoyed to see the wickets fall as early as they did and the party started from there with David Rudder's "Rally Round de West Indies" playing loudly in the background.

Brian Charles Lara - West Indies CaptainZimbabwe made 202 runs for 5 followed by the WI coming into bat and taking their sweet time to command the win.

Chris Gayle was my man of the match with 3 sixes in a row at the beginning of the over, this too had all of Sabina Park on their feet, Gayle commented that one of them was his biggest six ever. It reached the roof of the pavilion never to return.

Lara and Bravo ended the match with a fine partnership giving Lara (picture to the left) the opportunity to hit the winning ball for six. The WI final score was 204/4 (47.5 overs).

Mad prices for Cricket in de Oval and all dem restrictions...
Well I sorry for anybody in Trinidad who planning on going Cricket in de Oval, because de prices from everything from parking to eating is out of control. Yuh better doh get thirsty because is TT $12 for a bottle of water.

$30 to Park in the Savannah and another $20 to take the shuttle because of course you cannot park at King George the V Park, that is reserved for other nonsense. Better doh park in de yellow zone because your car will be wrecked.

Yuh could take yuh Tanti Merle parasol but it must be able to collapse. Take yuh flag to wave but make sure is de right size. Doh bring yuh pothound unless yuh blind or yuh parrot on yuh shoulder because no pets allowed.

Imagine cricket in de Oval with no cooler, well dey say yuh could take one but it must be soft and could collapse, I think dey want cricket fans to collapse with all these restrictions. Check de Trinidad Express for more info on what you can and cannot take.

I hope yuh enjoy yuhself nonetheless.

2007 Cricket World Cup Opening Ceremony

The 9th Annual event opening ceremonies featured Caribbean entertainers including Trinidad and Tobago's Machel Montano, Faye Ann Lyons, David Rudder, Jamaica's Sean Paul, Shaggy, Buju Banton, Beres Hammond, Gregory Isaacs, Half Pint, Sly and Robbie and Alison Hinds from Barbados.2007 ICC Cricket World Cup Opening Ceremony

The Soca artists performed a medley of tunes at the very beginning of the event and were not given enough time to shine individually, this was a disappointing start to the proceedings that then gained promise when David Rudder performed.

David Rudder was by far the best performance of the night and really got the attention of the crowd with his remixed version of "High Mass" just for the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

Rupee, Shaggy and Faye-Ann gave a spirited performance of the ICC 2007 Cricket World Cup's official song “The Game Of Love and Unity" written by Rupee himself.

The event took place at the new Trelawny multi-purpose Stadium in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The venue of the first match of the tournament on Tuesday; will feature the West Indies against Pakistan, in Sabina Park, Kingston at 9:30am EST/local time.

More than 2,000 singers, dancers and performers were involved in the production, which culminated with West Indies captain Brian Lara taking the player’s oath and the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers officially declaring the games open.

Sixteen teams will play a total of 51 matches at grounds spread around nine different Caribbean nations, with the final in Barbados on April 28th.
