IZATRINI.com features Empress Jeanille
Empress JeanilleBorn and raised in the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Jeanille Bonterre has been a popular face and voice of Trinidad and Tobago's broadcasting industry for years. Often described as the quintessential "Caribbean Queen," Jeanille began her media career in Trinidad as a teenager hosting the youth TV show, "Nettwork." She later hosted a daily radio program on FM 100 before moving to Los Angeles, California to pursue a degree in communications studies at Santa Monica College.

After her stint in Los Angeles she continued her education by enrolling in the distinguished Radio and Television Arts Program at Ryerson University in Canada,
where she became the entertainment news writer and host for the campus radio station 'SPIRIT Live'. That paved the way for her return to Trinidad and Tobago for a position as the entertainment correspondent for the National Broadcasting Network CCN TV6 and host of ‘The Morning Talk Show’ on the island’s #1 radio station Ebony 104FM. This bold move eventually paid off as she was then selected to host the best selling Caribbean DVD series, "Inside Carnival." This opportunity gained her widespread exposure in the Caribbean entertainment industry and sealed Jeanille’s fate on the international broadcasting scene, soon MTV Networks came calling - Jeanille's perseverance and passion to promote and develop Caribbean culture has now brought her to
MTV’s Tempo as the host and producer of her very own show ‘Downtown Island’ and their concert series ‘Live and Direct’.

This groundbreaking channel which currently broadcasts in 24 countries throughout the region, is the first ever Pan- Caribbean network showcasing the vibrant culture, music, exotic locations and the brightest superstars of the region. As a result of the tremendous popularity she’s received from her broadcasting career Jeanille has now managed to expand her talents to the silver screen; making her debut film performance in the upcoming cricket movie "Hit For Six!". The highly anticipated Caribbean film premiered in the region in April 2007 as part of the Cricket World Cup celebrations and will also premiere in other cricket countries around the globe including Australia, UK, South Africa, India and Pakistan.

Always driven and motivated by her culture and love for her people, this self-professed 'workahoilc' knows how to keep it moving as she believes time,
like the mind, is a terrible thing to waste.
When she's not jet-setting around the region hosting her TV show on Tempo, flexing her acting skills on the big screen
or making appearances in New York on behalf of the network, she's hosting live concert events and shows from the Caribbean to the US to Africa, spreading the message of Caribbean consciousness and culture to the masses.

When asked about advice for other young people pursuing their passion in the Caribbean, she says, "Whatever your career dream is, focus and go after it. Believe in yourself and trust that your spirit will always guide you towards the path of prosperity."

Political Race Heating Up

IZATRINI.com would like to welcome our very first guest blogger - Mani from The Manicou Report Blog. Mani is a student at the University of the West Indies and loves Trinidad. His coverage of Trinidad politics is among the best on the Web. Be sure to subscribe to The Manicou Report (Click here for RSS Feed) for up to the minute political information in an election year.

Political Rallies

It was definitely a politically-charged weekend here in T&T with all three political parties (and the MND) holding their major rallies. When people say that this is going to be the mother of all elections you had better believe it.

The People's National Movement has been the only party so far to announce a full slate of candidates while the UNC alliance has named 21 and the Congress of the People has named 38. Word from the COP is that they will unveil their last three candidates shortly - a "secret weapon" to unseat Patrick Manning at a later date and its two Tobgaonian candidates at a rally in Tobago.

Looking at that sea of orange yesterday at the Mid Center Mall, it's plain to see that the UNC still has a tremendous amount of support.  It was the largest group of people I have seen at a political gathering for this election season. It is going to be something very difficult for either the PNM or the COP to ignore. In fact, I'm sure that many a confidence took a hit yesterday upon seeing the crowd at the Mid Center Mall. How that crowd, or any crowd for that matter, translates into
votes will be the meat of the matter.

Front Page of the Sunday Guardian

Trinidad Guardian SundayMy sister pointed this out to me. At first glance, the photos on the front page of the Guardian make Dookeran look like an angel and Manning the opposite. It helps that Dookeran is dressed in white and has two angel-wing-looking things behind him. It also helps that Patos is dressed in red. Obviously the effect was not intentional, but it still makes it all funny.

Famous Abusive Relationships in history

Ike & Tina Turner, Mike Tyson & Mike Tyson, The People's National Movement & Lavantille, Kamla Persad Bissessar & The United National Congress

Poor Kamla. She waited and waited. Shrugged it off when people refer to
her appointment as AG as a "10 days". She was loyal and brownnosing and all she gets is to be head of a fictional "women's army" - because she's a woman.

I listened to most of her speech on Sunday - the one where she was carded to speak for 10 minutes and spoke for 35 - and I have to say I was a little surprised at how she spoke out about the treatment meted out to her.

After being introduced to the sounds of, "No Woman, No Cry", she ranted and raved and yet got no support from the other platform members, and still she waits. You know, denial isn't a river in Africa, at some point she is going to have to admit she is "Waiting in Vain" for Panday's love. Maybe now she will take the hint and retire to the kitchen where she could bake the old boys some pie.
